Testing Services

Materials testing to support qualification, investigation and in-service assessment

MET offers a broad range of materials testing services designed to support product development, qualification, investigation and in-service assessment. Capabilities include mechanical testing, fatigue and fracture analysis, corrosion testing, metallography, chemical analysis and full-scale component testing.

Our Testing Capabilities

Explore our core materials testing services below. Each capability is supported by experienced technical staff, robust procedures, and practical reporting designed to support engineering decision-making.

Mechanical Testing

Tensile, compression and bend testing, impact testing, hardness and micro-hardness measurement, proof loading and welder qualification testing.

Fatigue & Fracture Testing

Fatigue life testing, crack initiation and propagation studies, S–N curve generation, and fracture toughness testing including CTOD, KIC, JIC and JR curve methods.

Corrosion Testing

Stress corrosion testing, corrosion fatigue testing, salt spray testing and Huey testing carried out to recognised industry standards in our labs in the UK.

Metallography & Microscopy

Specimen preparation, optical microscopy, SEM examination and full microstructural assessment to support quality control and failure investigation.

Chemical & Spectrographic Analysis

Emission spectrometry, atomic absorption, wet chemical analysis and alloy identification including duplex and super duplex materials.

Component & Structural Testing

Full-scale and sub-scale component testing, bespoke test rigs and high-load structural testing designed to replicate real-world service conditions.

Inside Our Laboratory

Our facilities support a wide range of materials testing and engineering investigation work, from specimen preparation and microscopy through to high-load structural and component testing.
